Since our Buffalo Cloud station is not doing what we want and breaks every time there is a power cut we are looking for a new storage area.

The cloud station allowed me to share drives but not in the way i wanted.
I need a nas box that will let me set proper permissions of files and folders from groups in active directory we use 2008 r2

Any recommendations?

It looks like what you had previously was for home use. As you have mentioned 2008R2 and AD then I presume this is for a business.

How many users will this be serving?
How much data do you have?
Projected growth of data?
What kind of data is going to be stored?

Depending on the above I really wouldn't recommend a NAS in a business environment unless it's a decent one in which case it'd be a DAS or SAN you'd opt for.

QNAPs NAS's will intergrate quite happily with AD:

I have a few of these in small businesses - most clients opt for the 2 bay type configured in RAID1 mirrors. I have had very little trouble with them. I have them hooked up to UPSs as well and they will gracefully shutdown.

Agreed, got my synology (very similar to qnap) hooked up to an apc ups via the USB socket. It'll even power back up when mains is restored :)

Have ad integration too (don't know if that is model varying)
