Hello.

I was wondering if you could advise me on the hardware sides of stuff for my future NAS server. I will want to enable more servers running on this later on, but it will primarily be used as a NAS server with Raid 5 config. My budget is £1000 at max. It will be connected through ethernet cable to my router. Ok here we go:

Intel i3 2100T £100.26
Zotac H67ITX-A-E £119.99
Corsair XMS3 4GB Dual DDR3 12800 £38.39
Samsung SpinPoint F4 5400 £389.94
Fractal Design Array MiniITX Case £153.17

Now my questions are:
***0) The PSU that comes with the case - provides enough power for all this?
1) Will all the components fit in this case?
2) How bad/noisy are the drives? Raid 5 will do on them?
3) The cooler and the cpu - go together?
4) Any better components within this price range?
5) Will 99.9% run Ubuntu with no GUI - compatible with Linux?
6) Anything else I forgot to mention

Remove the external retailer link buddy, and read the FAQ. Linking to other suppliers isn't allowed.

4GB of RAM and an Intel I3 chip is over kill.
I would go for a Gigabyte GA-E350N-USB3 Zacate, and a 1GB stick of RAM will be more than enough to the job.
Your link to a Samsung F4 actually links to a Hitachi Deskstar. Samsungs are good drives, its quiet, and will continue to be since the Fractal Design has HD rubber dampers.

thanks for the reply. Fixed the link too.

The reason why I went with that board is: 1) Has Wi-Fi support, in case i need it. 2) Has 6 SATA and I am not a big fan of Sata Expansion Cards.

i3 because I want it to be future proof. 4GB of Ram, because thats the lowest I could get in OC that would work with the i3, otherwise 2GB is fine with me. (they are dirt cheap so no problem there :) ).

About noise. I'll put this in my bro's bedroom. Could he sleep at night with this thing on? Remember, there will be 6 SATAs (12TB).

Thanks :)
