hi guys,
just purchased 1TB WD mybook world edition, all good so far, but when i plug i into either the router (sky's netgear) or 1 of the NIC's on mobo i can't get online.
net only works through 1 NIC and not on other
same with the HDD, sometime can get it to work with net, other times nothing.

Anything I can do?

Plug in the WD MyBook and configure it (using the software if necessary) to a static ip of 192.168.0.200 and disable DHCP if enabled. By doing this you put it way above the ip addresses assigned normally by the router (unless you have 200 network devices at home).

Then unplug the MyBook and connect it to one of the router ports and it should work fine as it now has a static ip (easy for you to connect multiple machines).
 
idealy what i want to do is connect it to one of the NIC's on PC and use it for direct connection, if possible at all.
Would that now be better as it now has a stacic IP?
