As per title really. Can it be done?

I'm looking for something that'll let me turn my home PC off!

I don't want to spend a fortune, but I think whatever it is, it should be able to take two hard drives, have an ultra low power consumption and quiet!

It seems a ReadyNAS Duo should do the trick, but I wonder if it'll struggle a bit with the unrar and par steps a little?

QNAP TS210 is also in budget, and perhaps a little more pokey than the ReadyNAS?

How about an HP Microserver? Using either WHS, Ubuntu or FreeNAS 7 you should be able to setup those tasks easily, along with room to add extra drives (up to 5) and also at a lower cost of a standard dedicated NAS.

What is the spec, power consumption and noise like and what do they cost?

I recall there being some cashback offer a while back, but it wasn't running when I looked.

Cashback is still running. Just got my cousin to get one for himself.

If you got to the thread about them you can find out all about power consumption and noise http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=18216324

Speaking from personal experience it's quiet enough, stock, that I can have it on all the time in my living room and not notice it watching the news. Although I've not measure the power consumption with my current 3 disks I've had it on 24/7 for the last couple of months and not noticed any increase in my bills.

Again spec is good enough for me to run Windows 7 on it and play back hi def files. Also streams them fine over my network. Like you I just use it for Sabnzbd and Sickbeard.

Have a look at the Synology range of Nas. The DS211j is a good nas and their OS is second to none.

QNap TS210 will do loads more than you'll ever probably imagine! ;) - These are two drive NAS's by the way - otherwise check out the 110/119 range.

I run sabnzbd (packages available from qnap), and they are kept up to date quite well by QNAP. The rest of the nas's out there tend to be behind with packages for sabnzbd
