NASCAR 2011 season thread

I forgot about this Grrrrrrrr
Kurt won the first dual? what happend to Dale jr?

EDIT=Dale finished 13th :(

Jr wasn't really competitive at all. He got a sniff of the lead pack in the middle of the race and then never again. He was working with Bill Elliot for quite a while and then after pit stops he slowed down to pick up Martin. Respect your elders day at Daytona?

Today was the first time they had this car on the track, they didn't get to run it during the second practice yesterday. That may have something to do with it. He has another car coming down that will arrive tomorrow, wonder if he will switch to that car.

Sure hope Kurt doesn't pull off the sweep. Not a fan...

Thanks for the info dude :)
Well I hope they sort out his car for the main race but it don't look good :(

I'm not worried yet. Still have 3 more practices and Jr will know what feel he needs from the car. Racing a car that has no practice laps on it can't be easy, even at a plate track. I'll try and watch both practices tomorrow and final practice on Sat and post up any new info.

I'm also encouraged by the communication I'm seeing between Jr and Letarte and the changes Letarte has made to try and include Jr more in what the team is doing.

So....who's stopping up to watch the Trucks qualify? :)

Glad to see Burton get a win. One of the good guys in the series. Always rooted for Martin and Burton when they were racing for Roush back in the 90s.

I won't be watching the trucks qualify, gotta get some sleep before work tonight.

I'll watch the truck race tomorrow night though, always a good one.

The grid for the CW Truck race tonight.

Noteworthy stuff:

1) Nelson Piquet Jr actually posted the 4th quickest time, but it was taken away because the roof of his KHI truck was too low. Bit harsh for him, but rules are rules and KHI's prep should have been better. Aric Almirola also had his time scrubbed because the rear of his truck was running too low. They line up 34th (Almirola) and 35th (Piquet Jr) by dint of owners points.
2) Really wasn't expecting Rick Crawford to not make the field.
3) Ditto for Mike Skinner. He was unable to use the champions provisional either, as his team didn't actually enter his truck in time. Probably the biggest shock of the session, him not making the grid.

Didn't get to watch much of practice, but after the Duels Jr was interviewed and he made an interesting comment “Guys are able to run a little bit longer than we are without swapping,” Earnhardt said. “We need to find a little better deal on the cooling."

I know he ran in both practices today...only 12 cars ran in each. So they were working on it.

If any long-time NASCAR fans (Earnhardt fans in particular) want to get a bit misty-eyed, watch this: link.

Caught a great programme on a random Justin.tv motorsport channel last night, "The Day: Remembering Dale Earnhardt."

Even though I didn't start following NASCAR until the beginning of the 2003 season - was living with my parents and had disposable cash to spend on an NASN subscription - the magnitude of that accident wasn't lost on me.

After a few years racing in NR2003 leagues which eventually ceased to exist I fell away from following the sport. Called off the usual Sunday trip to family dinner and wondering if todays 500 will mark my return as a fan :)

The green flag is scheduled to fly at 1:29pm ET. Can't wait!

***edit***

Command to fire the engines has been given, and we're up to the booth and one of the best commentary teams in Motorsport. Mike Joy, Larry McReynolds, and ol' DW. I always dread the latter half of the season and the crap that EPSN/TNT/ABC/whoever the hell ends up showing it gives us.
