NAT & Games

Hey is there any way at all to be able to set your own server without a direct connection to the internet or buying a server etc..... since i have a "netgear dg834g v2" and I have tried port forwarding...however if i switch the NAT of it all goes caput.... and no internet for me ..... i know on the help page for steam it says you wont be able to but why and .... why for other games like quake 3 .... cod2 .... cod and many more games bhd etc......

You need to forward the ports, not just disable NAT.
There is alternatively DMZ. But that's a bit like using a nuke to crack a nut.

i did use portforwarding didnt work *sobs*

dmz ...i dont know how to use since there was know help for my router at http://portforward.com/

Shouldn't be hard, at most giving the router your machine's IP address.
The manual is your friend.
