National tyres wheel alignment

I know that my tires are starting to get worn inside ( advisory on my mot ) and for £15 i want to squeeze a few month from the tires but i am afraid that they will damage my car...

Used them once, they made it worse than it was before. The only alignment I've found which works is the proper 4 wheel laser alignment places, can cost ~£100 though depending on how badly it's out.

The proper one is a Hunter which is done with cameras, the laser system is the most basic one. Hunter costs around £45 for the front and an extra £20 for the rear, although it does depend where you go. Can cost close to £200 to have the full geometry done.

The place I work has a Hunter now, I've done a few family members cars on it now, all of which were miles out and are now perfect. I'll soon do my own once I've fitted my new suspension arms and adjustable top mounts.

I would imagine national tyres will have the basic laser system anyway. It does the job and at £15 it's not bad really, but it won't be perfect.

Protyres has the hunter wheel alignment and they charge £31 for the front, i can not adjust my rear.
So one tire will cost me £90.00 with balancing and i need two. Do y go for the £31 service and change the tires in maximum 2-3 moths or just wait 2-3 month change the tires and do the alignment then ?

I used them for a wheel alignment this year. As I was driving home I noticed my steering wheel was not straight by a long way. I was going straight and it was turned to the right.
Took it back and he said 'Oh I didn't think I had done it right'
He fixed it and its been fine since. Not sure I would use them again to be honest.

the issue isn't so much the equipment but finding somewhere where someone has enough mental capacity to actually use them damned thing right. If anyone has any tips in the Otley/Harrogate area I'd appreciate it.

There is a huge thread on Briskoda about finding a Hunter operator who actually knows what he's doing.

http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/112607-wheel-alignment-the-big-con/

I do understand that very few will want to work their way through that thread but if you just get the bit about asking the operator a few simple questions then you're almost certainly going to get a much better experience than anything £15 will buy you at National Tyres.

And the person who asked about how we ever managed with mirrors' well, we did, but if you drive a car from the 1970's then the difference is steering precision is incredible, plus wide, low profile, expensive, tyres are now very common, whereas the 1970's and 1980's everyone had 13" wheels and 175/65/13 was a low profile tyre at the time.

After suspension and brakes, steering is probably the most important safety factor on your car. Don't skimp on wheel alignment.

This is very important. The Hunter system can work well but ultimately is only as good as the person operating it.

I have had poor results at the local Pro Tyre, the worst being them charging me for four wheel alignment on a car that had absolutely no adjustment on the rear suspension, yet the results sheet clearly showed the rear geometry had been changed (probably by nudging the reflectors). They seemed a bit sheepish when I asked them to show which parts of the rear suspension they had adjusted, and eventually charged me for a two wheel alignment which hadn't been done properly anyway.
