what ever you do don't use these cowboys ..wife got a chip 1x2mm in the mid window of the xc60 ..din't bother me but doing her head in .. so phoned up insurance and they said contact national windscreens.
£25 for a repair .. guy came out drilled a 5mm hole and injected cream color mix in ..also caused a bubble of about 4 mm to one side .. it looked terrible .. so complained ..and said just come fit a new window they knocked the original £25 off .
so was going to cost me £90 fine 2 guys came out in the rain no cover and pulled the window 20 mins of rain in the car .. then could not get the box for sensors and rearview on .. said they would be back tom it will be fine to drive .
no it's illegal to drive a car without one ..so phoned them when i got home ..car was soaking inside job not finished ..so next day they sent another lad out spent 3 hrs trying to get this box on ended up melting the black trim on the window .
so phoned again going mad .. had the £90 knocked off ,next day young lad turns up fit's another new window job done i thought .. looked fine .. next morning get a text of wife trims have fallen off .. so phoned again sent a lad from Liverpool trims fixed ..
when she got home ..checked car fuse box cover sitting on floor .. opened bonnet battery cover sitting on top of the engine .. 3 days to change a window ... and they still got **** wrong ..

Unfortunately, whenever you're dealing with companies or people that are paid on the minimum wage, you just need to expect a crap service. Your shouldn't have to, but you do.

People just don't give a crap about their job on such a low pay and the people that generally do low paid jobs aren't the smartest (apologies if anyone here is on min wage!) or they would be doing something else.

I absolutely hate it when my car needs a tyre changing and it's worth next to naff all! They get the garage apprentice to do the work and do they even know safe jacking points, torque requirements for bolts or how to properly weight and balance a new tyre / wheel? I'd hope so, but.....

For windscreens always find some local tradesmen with good rep to do it.

Forget the insurance cover its always cheap made in china OEM clones not the actual OEM windscreen. Just source the OEM windscreen yourself at trade prices you get a way better job this way & its only 20 mins to remove maybe 15 mins to install a new one you can even DIY its not a hard job but 2 people make it so much easier than one!

Hahaha.
Some screens are nearly a grand.
Just tell the company you'll only accept a genuine screen. It's your car, not theirs. They get paid no matter what.

TBH I've had 3 screens, all heated replaced over 3 different vehicles in the past 8 years. All replaced by National and not had a single issue. Each time it's been the same installer and he actually did me a favour on one replacement. Service was due including the cabin filter, which was in the scuttle. I'd bought all the service items and they were on the back seat. He switched the cabin filter whilst he had it all open. Saved me taking off the scuttle again to do it.

It is down to the expertise of the technician, in my opinion.

I had a new one fitted last year and before the guy started work I bored him with my previous experiences.

He got the new non OEM windscreen up on the trestle thing and we inspected it. Looking at at almost side-on, there were a couple of small ripples, but looking through it from the normal angles it was crystal clear, so I asked him to proceed.

It turns out that he often gets called out to remedy badly done windscreens. He swapped out the windscreen and did an expert job, I was very satisfied.

I appreciate that most people haven't got time to vet the person, but in my opinion it's worth having a 10 min chat to try and assertain whether they genuinely care and take pride in what they do or are just useless.

Your insurer might let you choose a different company and pay the same excess like autoglass to autowindscreen but they're much of a muchness. I've only had 2 windscreens changed, had minor issues when mine was changed - misaligned wipers and the washer jet disconnected
