Have we had any "official" word from Sony, Microsoft or any games dev's if the new generation of consoles will actually run games in true native 1080p and not 720p upscaled or any other weird and wonderful resolution the game devs come up with. Both platforms (PS3 and 360) only have a handful of true 1080p games each.

I'd like to think we will see some actual HD games supporting full 1080p and a decent framerate between 30 and 60.

Considering 1080p is becoming more common as time goes on and more people start to own Full HD TV's and not HD Ready (720p) ones. I think it would be a sizeable disadvantage if these new consoles are not capable of 1080p with decent framerates in games.

Some last gen games where 1080P Think Ridge Racer on the PS3 was 1080P. Have seen a list of games that are 1080P doing the rounds, i know Killzone Shadow fall and Forza 5 are both 1080P.

Yes...but is this Native 1080p...that's the question.

I imagine a lot will be rendered around 720p or slightly above then converted to display at 1080p initially.

UbiSoft have come out and said Watchdogs runs @ 30fps but haven't confirmed the native resolution yet.

That will definitely look good then :D Hopefully we get further confirmation for other titles nearer the launch.
Both consoles have the power for 1080p and 60FPS, but it's down to the developers to use that power. I think it'll be more common as developers get more used to the power that is available to them.

Not a console guy, just sticking my head in. There is a difference between 30fps solid and "about 30fps". Some games, especially third person games, are adequate at 30fps. Obviously 120 is better ;)

Even third person games are horrible to aim in with a solid 30fps.

I think ryse is 900p, battlefield 4 and killer instinct are 720p on xbox one.

The order has a weird res on ps4 but I would suspect most ps4 games will be 1080p although will run at 30 fps.

Native 1080p negates the need for that to quite a large degree...slight AA will be all that's required which you'd expect both to be more than capable of achieving.

Not so sure about that, even on a small monitor (24") at 1080p without AA jaggies are very noticeable, on a large TV jaggies stand out even more.

What's gonna happen with regards to 4k tvs and the new consoles? Will the games still look ok on them tvs when they become mainstream in coming years?

Probably look horrible on a 4k set as consoles won't be able to upscale to that res and the TV's will be running way off their native res.

Yeah that's what I was thinking. It's a bit of a frustrating time with next gen tv and consoles at similar times.

I was looking at some 4k tvs on high street and it's gonna be good when they get cheap.
