Navfree GPS users, it there a routing option that is a compromise 'fastest' and 'shortest' route?

As title really, I've found shortest has been known to take me down dirt tracks, and fastest tend to only stick to A roads which isn't ideal.

I haven't had much of a chance to experiment with the other options such as 'economy' but I was wondering what is a good setting that would be equivelent to 'quickest' on other satnav software.
