Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe faces a new, unspecified charge, according to a report on Iranian state TV, which also said she had appeared in court on Tuesday morning.

The report did not elaborate beyond saying Zaghari-Ratcliffe has appeared before a branch of the country’s revolutionary court in Tehran, where she was first sentenced in 2017.

The new indictment comes as Britain and Iran negotiate the release of £400m held by London, a payment the late Iranian Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi made for Chieftain tanks that were never delivered. (LINK)
This is an utterly shameful, spiteful act by the Iranian authorities. No matter that Britain chose to hang onto the money paid out under the Shah's tyrannical regime and Boris Johnson while Foreign Secretary stupidly put his foot in it, the poor woman and her child should not be unjustly held against her will as some sort of bargaining chip.

I blame our Government for not doing enough in this case - Although that makes you wonder if what she was charged with may be correct?

But then again, I wouldn’t put it past our awful Government for just doing **** all as there is no real benefit for them doing so.
For the British Government there are a few hundred millions that they acknowledge thay have been sitting on for more than 40 years; they do have a record of interfering in the Middle East and of course, they can't afford to upset Trump and his lunatic fringe.

Not really. The fact that she is still being held is a shameful reflection of our international clout. That and the fact the US won't hand over Anne Sacoolas. Disgusting
That is SO unfair

Our leaving the EU without a plan, our willingness to ignore a law to which we signed up recently and our respected Leader and his chums totally losing the plot over Covid is a clear indication of how competent our esteemed Government is and of the clout this great Nation has on the Planetary stage.

Iran was a pretty free democracy pre-1980s. Women were not oppressed and it was a popular place to visit. . . .
Ahhh yes; Iran was a peaceful, tolerant, democratic state prior to the 1980s.

That'll be after the British and the Americans engineered a coup, deposing the democratically elected and very popular PM Mosaddegh when he sought to establish Iran's independence from Russia, Britain and America.

You might want to ask some of the victims of the CIA trained SAVAK just how peaceful and tolerant Iran was under the autocratic rule of the Shah - except that many of them died while being tortured

Yeah. [Iran] Wasn't a democracy before, but was a much more pleasant, tolerant and open society than it is now. It wasn't a trouble maker on the international stage either.
Tolerant hey
That will be a reference to the Shah's very "tolerant" secret police I guess

As to not being "a trouble maker on the international stage" I really don't think that either Britain or America are in any position to accuse anyone of being a trouble maker - for a start, we did engineer a coup of the democratically elected and popular government in Iran

Awful as the Mad Mullahs undoubtedly are, the Shah's thoroughly evil secret Police (Savak) who were enthusiastically encouraged by the CIA were not exactly the People's Choice.

Incidentally @Chris Wilson, do you have any basis for your assertion that Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe, along with her husband is "dodgy as hell" or is it just some spiteful nonsense that your deranged mind has made up?

. . . Giving away tech to some of these middle eastern countries . . .
Is that what we did then?
Gave away technology?
That would be when we decided that donating the means to kill people was a philanthropic policy would it?

We gave away nothing, our "Defence" firms SOLD it; rather dealers like selling drugs, there's money in it, to hell with the consequences

ps - actually, we took money for goods to supply weapons that we then decided to welch on the deal when it wasn't to our proxies.
