NB + Gfx overheating

Hello, i have been having the occasional crash recently, and sometimes some image corruption on screen whilst playing games. So i booted up Nvidia monitor and Asus pc probe, to discover that my Motherboard temp was hitting 48-50 and my Graphics was idling at 66 - 77, and up to 83 under load. I touched the heatsink on the motherboard and it quite hot, the same with the graphics card. Both are using stock cooling and nothing is overclocked. I'm using two 120mm akasa ambers for my case fans.
My Cpu is fine though, idling at around 36.

Can anyone recommend a solution? I presume i'm going to have to buy new coolers, silent running is my preference for cooling.

Spec:
Gainward BLISS GeForce 8800 GTS 640MB
Intel Core 2 Duo E6600
Asus P5N-E SLi nForce 650
Antec P180

EDIT
These look good for my graphics card

You could try running with the case open and testing with 3DMark to see if it is indeed overheating.

I would say you are right - the GFX heat will transfer to the chipset cooler to some extent. Both aftermarket coolers will do well I should say.

My 7800GT was generating a lot of heat. I took it apart and blew all the dust out of the heatsink. Youll be surprised how much accumulates inside it. Dropped my temps by 10 degrees. Give this a go first before looking to purchase any solutions.

Gotta agree with the above, if the system was running fine and started getting hotter just lately then take a look inside the case and get rid of any dust. Last 2 problems that my friends reported with their PCs was fixed by cleaning out the dust build up.

Those temps are about right and nothing to be alarmed about.
My 8800gtx would hit 85c before i WCed it and your mobo is known to run its NB hot. I have the same mobo and before i added the NB to the WCing loop i had a fan blowing accross the NB heatsink (what NB volts are you running btw).

The temps may be normal but if it's causing problems then that's not normal and i'd be silly to ignore it.
Not sure what the volts are, but they should be stock. The crashes have been happening for a while now, i just haven't got around to checking or doing anything about them. I'll have a look at the dust situation and see if that makes a difference. If not then i'll buy those two zalman products.

Run the system with the side off the case to see if it is your case cooling.
To be honest if everything is at stock and the Temps are normal then it is something else causing the problem.
Check in your bios to see if ant settings are incorrect, also check to see if there is any software/driver conflicts.
Can you be a little more specific when you say what happens with the crash.

When my PC crashes the screens will just go blank, but my computer will remain the same. E.g. i will still be able to hear music playing in the background etc. Once restarted it is fine, but with no errors reported in the admin tools.

That sounds like it might be a PSU issue - not supplying enough power to the GFX card. Check the rails and whether the 12V supplies enough ampage for your GFX.

Sounds like a probble cause, what PSU are you using? Any chance you can borrow another card to see if is down to the gfx/psu, at least that would rule out any other probable causes.

The psu is a Seasonic S12 Energy+ 650W Silent ATX2.

So i haven't exactly skimped on the power.

In that case, your rails/amps should be more than sufficient.

Of course, the PSU can also be clogged with dust, reducing the efficiency.

Try the case side off and stress test to determine whether the temps are causing the instability.
The fact the screens go blank does suggest a GFX card power issue, but overheating could create the same effect.

Yes the PSU will be fine as long as its not overheating, Make sure that the six pin power lead is firmly attached to your gfx card.
Also check that your SB isnt overheating as a dodgy SB can couse a loss of picture, this happened on an old S939 mobo of mine, no picture and a cold (dead) south bridge.
