ok, so i'm a bit of an amateur (this is my first self-built PC). i was a bit annoyed after i found that the chipset i bought (intel g41) was a bit naf, and i can only overclock core 2 quad Q6600 to 3.0ghz. ideally i would like it at about 3.6ghz, but the machine refuses to enter windows and claims there's an overclocking error every time it goes above 333mhz (i dont think there's an option to change multiplier).

If i up the NB voltage, (currently on Auto), would this help with overclocking cpu in any way (sorry if this is a stupid question!)?

Another thing is, with my old machine i had nvidia 680i chipset, so is it possible to transfer them, or do i need a soldering iron, and knowledge on electronics?

Put simply you can't tranfer the chipset from one motherboard to another.

As you still have the 680i motherboard have you tried using that in your current system?

err... well because it's unfortunately a dell mobo, i cant put anything that i currently have onto it because it has custom sockets that only dell parts fit into :(

Also, the dell BIOS doesn't allow overclocking, so...

i would just leave it at 3.0ghz, its still a decent overclock.
u wont really see much of a real world difference between 3.0-3.6, just a few extra fps in games, depending if you have a decent graphics card.
for overclocking Q6600's u need a P45, X38 or X48 mobo, and as these will not fit your Dell case, its not worth buying one
