Hi guys wondered if you can help,

i have an ASUS P5NE SLI mobo and an E4300 cpu and I have been getting random freezing in games.

I have also noticed that my northbridge gets up to 85 degrees and is extremely hot to touch.

Is this normal? Could this be the cause of game lock ups?

Thanks Ferret

That sounds way too hot for stability to Me, Looks like You need to review Your case cooling, both in and out
These latest GFX cards are building lots of extra in Case heat

I'd be a little concerned with anything of 60c, although i remember the nforce 4 nb on my old DFI use to reach 80c when overclocked -are you overclocking? If not, might want to check the heatsink/fan is seated properly over the chip.

if its anything like my evga 680, you need a fan on the NB / good case cooling

i got rid of my NB fan (due to noise) and it wasn't long before system instabilty and for me to see my NB at 100 degree's.
Fan keeps it about 50 max normally

You only need the slightest airflow to make a big difference. A 40mm fan wired to 5V kept my Abit 650i nice and cool while staying quiet. I used screws as the fins were close together but hot glue or blu tack will work.

If the HSF is getting really hot then it's doing it's job and taking heat from the northbridge but your case doesn't have the right air flow to dissapate the heat. These are usually designed to be in the draft from the intel stock cooler so if you have something else, consider alternative cooling
