NCP file for administration

Used NCP a few years ago at Manchester Airport as they were cheaper than meet and greet etc, they were basically fine but the operation did seem a bit... unprofessional. Switched to the airport's own internal one and it was easier, and worth the extra £30 or so.

Parking has become so **** in the past decade or so. Forced apps to pay, ticketed places switching to pay & display, ANPR cameras at free parking places (I got a £60 ticket for shopping more than 2 hours!), on street parking becoming resident only, a mass of disabled bays (always no more than 20% full) taking up the entire area next to the shop....

**** any parking business. Hope they all die.

Don't come to the David Lloyd in Eastbourne then, there is about 70 parking spaces for 300 members on any given day. Madness !! It gives me parking anxiety and be glad I quit this month, save myself a fortune now.

NPC yeah good riddance, had a birthday party in central Brighton and needed to drive the cake etc to the venue, so drove in and nearest car park was an NPC. 2.5hrs was £33 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Government are supposed to be bringing in a code of practice to clamp down on this unregulated industry of private parking thieves, but you know the Government, they are nowhere to be seen.

Zoë Bread is going to love this. She's had many an hilarious battle with scammy parking companies.

I also hate how they all have different rules and it seems like they're basically trying to trick you into getting a fine.

If they're going to charge for parking, I'd rather have an ANPR camera that scans you when you enter and leave, and then sends you a notification/email to pay with the correct amount so you can't accidently mess it up.

I can remember when it was 50p to park... I don't drive to city centre often being it's Manchester. I tend to catch the train or I get the bus to Warrington, it's actually cheaper for me to drive to chester and park there than it is to park in CC of Manchester. And they are wondering why the footfall of city centres are dropping.

Last time I drove and parked in CC of Manchester. The parking was like £30 pounds, I had to drive as my mate was pregnant.. I paid for the parking and then somehow lost the ticket between the pay station and the gate as she was just moaning that she needed a wee. Lucky the person on the intercomm took pitty on me and just let me out without paying the lost ticket fee as they saw us on the camera paying for it. A few days later, I noticed that they refunded my parking fee too... RESULT!!!

Tried parking at Blackpool a few months back, and I couldn't under how I was meant to get an app and pay for the ticket. Got fed up trying to pay for the parking so I drove back to the hotel and walked to the the sea front!

would have thought ev charging would have been becoming a financial opportunity,

but in Cambridge I'lll walk a couple of miles over broken paving slabs or use the park in my back garden app - before I go there.

I share the sentiment. However there is more to this beyond the headline. The problem here is not only driving habits but also that greedy landlords locked operators like NCP into horrible leases. It's more likely that its the site owners/landlords that have been largely responsible for the crap facilities, high costs and lack of investment. Often these leases are long, minimal breaks and upward only rent reviews. I suspect at the time these leases were entered into the revenue forecasts from parking looked sustainable. You often find that these landlords are institutions and they don't want to negotiate - why would they after all when there is a national shortage of space for car parking.

NCP at least had a genuine operating model, providing urban parking largely to commuters (which obviously doesn't work these days).

Half the parking companies these days make half of their money from "fines" after conning land owners to "free" car park management.

Don't understand how this can happen really. Running a parking facility is about the lowest operating cost business you can get. The building is a parking lot - not like you can use it for anything else. A few parking machines, barriers, lights and warden patrols is about it.

If the company can get that wrong they deserve to fail.

What I find crazy is that everyone agrees their prices are insane, and yet apparently still not enough to keep the lights on.

I know some will say "make it cheaper and you'll sell more spaces" but I don't think that would have saved them.

There's a few NCP car parks down here, they're bloody expensive and almost always rammed. £19 for 4 hours.

I don't know how they're not printing money.
