I've been running it for a few days now and am impressed, seems faster than 2007 on my laptop. Outlook is the app that has had the most work done from what I can see.

We've got it at work. Everyone's raving about Outlook's conversation feature, which is nice but I had to point out that Gmail's been doing that for years :p

I think for the average consumer it's not going to be as mind blowing as the jump to 2007, but for business, its going to be big.

Is the Beta still open for sign-ups or has that stage been and gone?

if you've not got one yet, you won't be getting one.

The killer new feature for me is the web apps being able to be run on a local install of sharepoint (cannot say any more than that, features etc. due to the NDA still being in force for that). Companies worried about using Google Apps/another cloud-based office suite for security reasons will probably jump over to this as it would allow them to host internally whilst still allowing people on the road to access remotely using a VPN with two factor authentication (RSA key or similar). Just see what happened recently to Twitter. The other benefit of having all docs stored securely in house is that laptops don't have any documents on them - great for going through airports in the states (or anywhere else that have the option of intrusive forensic scans of laptops - which will be everywhere soon) or if the laptop is lost/stolen (great for the MoD/MI5 etc :D).

2010 is certainly interesting.
We're planning on an Exchange 2010 roll-out as well and combo of Outlook/Exchange 2010 just puts it leaps and bounds ahead of everything else out there again.

We've only just finished our Office 2007 roll-out, but 2010 looks like it could be an upgrade we'd consider - whereas we usually miss a version out.

Got my invite today. Have got it up and running and must say its quite pretty to look at. So far seems like Outlook has had the most done to it.
Is it a worth while upgrade from 2007? Not sure yet need to play more
