hi

My newphews and neices have a really old machine that's intel core 2 duo. But with a samsung evo drive this has turned into a 5 minute boot machine to a 30 second boot machine. (The 5 minute boot was partially down to the really old and redundant mechanical hard drive that was 156Gb and probably 10 years old).

Anyway, machine is OK for now, at a later stage I will upgrade their mobo, cpu and ram to a sandybridge machine.

Ive had bad luck with motherboards, the laptops seem to go through post at a blink of an eye. But the desktop mobos seem to take a good 10-15 seconds. I've always stuck with asus and I have one pz68 mobo that does POST for 20 seconds!

Anyone know of a very good mobo that can go straight to OS quicker? preferably in 2 seconds?

Some boards can be speeded up by changing settings in the bios. Things like fast boot, boot logo show, post report time, post delay time, hdd detect can all be tweaked to speed up boot times. Disabling unused sata/ide ports can also help.

That motherboard has a UEFI bios it should be POST-ing much faster. Look through the options as pastymuncher suggests. I'd check your boot order also to make sure its not set to attempt a network boot (PXE) before your SSD/HDD.
