Hi,

I am looking for a nice upgrade for my heatsink. For the time being I have been using a Zalman Performa cnps5x which has done great for my AMD Phenom 965 BE, keeping it very cool, however it can be a little noisy compared to the rest of the fans!

It's not too loud, but it's loud enough as it's a smaller 80mm fan I think? And would like a nice upgrade tbh! I am using "Corsair Vengeance 8GB RAM" on a Asrock Extreme3 970 Motherboard so I'm not sure what heatsinks will fit snug.

I have been looking at the following which seem to be very good for silence, but after some other opinions really:

YOUR BASKET
1 x BeQuiet Dark Rock Pro 2 CPU Cooler (Socket 775 / 1155 / 1156 / 1366 / 2011 / AM2 / AM2+ / AM3 / FM1 / FM2) £61.99
1 x Alpenföhn K2 Mount Doom CPU Cooler (Socket 775 / 1155 / 1156 / 1366 / 2011 / AM2 / AM2+ / AM3 / FM1 / FM2) £59.99
1 x Corsair Hydro H60 V2 High Performance Liquid CPU Cooler (Socket LGA2011 / 1366 / 1155 / 1156 / 775 / AM2 / AM3) £59.99
Total : £193.37 (includes shipping : £9.50).

Thanks! :D

You using the tall vengaence heatsinks? Not the LP versions?

The only cooler out of the ones above that would fit that would be the H60.

Unless you move the front fan (push) to the back..

Have a look at some K2 reviews, that will show you whether its just the fan that overhangs the memory or the heatsink itself, IIRC i think its the heatsink.

Have you considered a passive cooler? Maybe the coolermaster TPC-800 (i think thats its name) or the Megahalems. You can add a fan to these but should perform okay at passive.

I have the taller vengeance RAM, so I am unsure which is going to fit the best. I don't need it dead silent, however compared to my case fans it's noticable as it's a smaller fan.

It's not quite as cool as other twin towers (couple c difference is all) but it's quieter... and is very nice looking too! That said they are all quiet. I have a Phanteks and a Silver Arrow SB-E both running on my work top 2 meters way. Can't hear either one.. and they are not in cases either. One is on a Corsair TX 750 v2 and it's "Ultra silent fan" as Corsair says in their advertising can be heard anywhere in the room :( Have it in a couple insulated boxes to kill it's noise.. and I can still just hear it. over 3 meters away. :(
