*Solved* Nearest card to a 6800GT for a replacement

Hi guys

I'm looking for a second opinion to just be sure.

My 6800GT has gone faulty and is due to be swapped for a new one.

I have it on good authority that the nearest card available now is a 7900GS, would you guys agree with that?

Thanks.

You'll be talking AGP then? PCIE 7600's are still widely available...

The '7900GS' you mention doesn't really exist, not in that name anyway, but you probably mean this one:-

Gainward BLISS GeForce 7800 GS+ SILENT 512MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI (AGP) - Retail (GX-032-GW)

Which can be found here:-

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatalog/Nvidia_AGP_Graphics_Cards.html

Be aware though, that for the price of that card, and depending on the rest of the kit you've already got, you can buy a PCIE 7600GT card (Which would be closest to the card you have now) and a PCIE Motherboard to put it on, and have some change! Or spend the extra on an even faster GPU?

What's the rest of your spec?

Thanks for your reply, I was talking PCI-E (sorry I should have mentioned).

I have just been called back and told that I will be refunded the total cost of the card when I bought it! Ace! :D

My specs are:

AMD X2 4400
Asus A8N SLI
2Gb Corsair TwinX
XFX 6800GT (PCI)

So the question now is with the latest driver releases by Nvidia will an updated card (such as an 7900) be perfectly compatible with an older series...I know it is in theory I just wonder about in practice...but that's a discussion for another thread.

Thanks for the help! :)
