Alright, most of you will probably think 'not another gaming tft thread again' but it's what im after.

Ive been holding off getting one because ive read so much about how they cant compete with a CRT

I pretty much play FPS games all the time, and competitvly, lots of CoD2 and Quake4/3 so fast pace games.

Are there any TFT's out there that can handle quick movements without ghosting and lagginess/slowness

Price isn't an issue really

Yeah, non TN panels with response times of under 8ms will be hardly noticeable to *most* people. You will still be able to tell the difference very slightly though (simply because you're used to CRT).

If you play a lot of FPS then all TFT's will still have some noticable lag or ghosting. I used to play all the time and I could certainly notice it when I moved to a TFT. I noticed it even more when I moved back to a CRT.

A friends 3ms 19" Viewsonic TN panel was great for gaming though and very close. But TN's do have disadvantages of their own such as poor vertical viewing angles and colours.

But TFT's have a lot of advantages and for me, as I now no longer play as many games and no longer in competitive leagues, those advantages outweigh the disadvantages.

From all the quantitative tests I've seen the Viewsonic VX922 is probably still the quickest TFT around in terms of response time and lag. It's response graph never went above 10 ms and averaged about 6 ms IIRC which is very good for an LCD. Clearly with those response times it's not going to have too many problems forming 60 frames per second. Plus some website measured lag on various screens and the VX922 had the least of those tested.

Of course since those tests were done a batch of 2 ms and 3 ms widescreens have come along which may perform similarly. Pretty much all these 2/3 ms screens are TN though which means you sacrifice viewing angles. If you want quick and good viewing angles, the NEC LCD20WGX2 is a good choice.

There are some other issues with LCDs though - the limited refresh rates can be a problem and you can end up stuck with either bad tearing or a reduced framerate (depending on whether v-sync is on or not). If you're used to running your CRT at 150 Hz then 60/75 Hz can be a problem. Also black depth is a weakness with LCDs - not so much in the day, but when gaming in a dark room in the evening.

I have a 30month old viewsonic 12ms 19inch lcd, and I dont notice any ghosting at all. The Only thing I notice is tearing when not using vsync
