And to add from what I've read which kind of makes sense is, psu are generally heavy and small margin items so not a priority and what does get shipped is generally more expensive as it cost more currently to ship them from China or Taiwan.
 
I was just looking at prices too, demand must be good. Just looking now and i got my 650w gold riotoro for almost half the price you're looking at for a 650 modular gold psu now!
