on closer inspection the VIN on the V5 didnt match the VIN on the car chassy. I obviously walked away and said until that was resolved i wouldn't handover any cash.

im guessing ill get a resounding nod in making the right choice but what do you think is up? stolen? cloned?

any experience would be useful to know and who to call in the morning to get to the bottom of it (i have both VIN info to look into)

i could just not even bother but it was a lovely car, and if i can get this resolved i would very much still like to buy it.

cheers

When I bought my Rallye the VIN on the MOT cert didn't match the one on the car. Turned out it was a typo, when i looked back through the old certificates. With it not matching the V5, I'd be very suspect. :)

Well spotted.

I got a letter from the DVLA asking me to check mine cos a recent MOT showed up a discrepancy. It turns out that when it was imported there was a bit of a mix up and so they changed the info on my V5 to show the correct VIN. I was a bit nervous about it to say the least.

HPI check reports it as STOLEN and cloned as a legal road car.

BEWARE always check the VIN| people!

blimey, hope you got the old bill round on the seller asap. Guess it may not be him that stole it etc, but they should atleast start investigations!

Are you sure you read the VIN on the car correctly? D's often look like O's, in fact on some cars the VIN on the vehicle itself is incredibly difficult to read.

EDIT if it's come up dodgy on the HPI check then probably reporting it to the police is the best thing.

Pleased you didn't buy, not because its cloned but the A2 isn't exactly a great car.

It's not THAT bad - it's pretty economical due to the light construction, it's built well, it's just... hideously expensive for a city car.

I've been in an A2 with the 1.4TD engine. You can hear the engine from within the car all the time. Its very noticeable...like a tractor.

Also I think a bigger engine would suit it better.

But as said. Its not a great looking car. They broke up the back end by putting the wing on as they had to do something! But still broken up it maybe. Its still the wrong design.

I herd they have made a loss on most made and I wouldn't be surprised.

 my taste in cars was not the topic

anyway i have pretty much almost bought one now:

A2 1.4 TDI SE 78,000mi spec inc.
16" 6-Spoke Alloys
Metallic Black
Climate Control
Open Sky System
6 CD Changer
10 months MOT
06 months Tax

im viewing to collect proper tomorrow so fingers x'ed :p

i actually quiet like them, its audi what they do best, really interesting and innovative design. Its a shame it missed the mark so much with people not really wanting large passenger space city cars and going for 4x4s and the like instead.

A friend drives 1.6fsi and loves it, apparently he gets all kinds of compliments from the ladys...

you shouldn't have to worry about rust atleast :D
