I've only had this monitor a few days, but tonight I put on dvd, which was in letterbox mode, i noticed something odd, down the left hand corner of my screen i can still see the windows "start" button outline!

Having only had this monitor for a few days I find this quite puzzling, I don't spend that much time on the windows desktop, but I guess my task-bar is always locked there. What I really want to know is if this is fixable and is there anyway to stop this from happening again.. I'm so scared to leave anything on the screen for two long now!

Another problem I noticed, and I'm not really sure if I should expect this or not, but in the left hand corner and top right corner I have areas of the screen which are never totally black, there seems to be little patches of lighter areas in these two corners.. is this normal?

I don't recall seeing any of these issues with my old acer 17" tft, have I got a faulty monitor?

Thanks for your reply. I just noticed there I also have the "X" from windows at the top right hand corner of my screen too. I tried to take a photo of it and the start menu, but its only visible from certain angles and my camera wasn't able to pick it up. It would seem the areas of image persistence are in the same place as my back-light bleed problems.

I know its not anything to do with the DVD player software, it was only by using that and having those parts of the screen black that i was able to notice it easier for the first time. VLC is what I'm using also.

I've just ran dead pixel buddy on 1second cycle for past half hour, and the image seems to have faded a little, but you can still very slightly see it. If this is going to be a persistent problem with this monitor then I think I'll have to take your advice and contact NEC.

Igors I hear what you are saying about how image persistence can be a problem if left too long, I do have a screen-saver set, but the problem is I spend a good deal of time browsing the web and using ms office etc, in all of these programs the start button and the "X" are visible in the same place all the time, so there is not really much I can do to reduce this problem, I set my task-bar to "auto-hide" and try to keep programs from filling the full screen. But there really isn't much I can do about this, I switched on monitor today after a full night of being off, and I could immediately see the "X" on the top right corner. I now think this is unavoidable, and since these areas are also the areas affected by the back light problem I have to assume they are linked. I'm going to phone NEC today and see if anything can be done.
