Been waiting patiently for Benq 1:1 firmware to come into stock, but now this new NEC has showed up.

Its expensive at nearly a grand but specs look very impressive. Within my budget and has aspect ratio retention. http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/articles/nec_press.htm

Tftcenral comment seems to indicate its non-glossy. Baddass are you able to confirm whether the Panel definatly has a Matt finish?

yep, it's definitely a matt finish :) (ps, in case you didnt realise that's my article and so I got to see the screen in the flesh :) Hoping to have a sample to test in the near future too from NEC so will be a full review at some point).

Baddass I know you have a lot of involvement with tftcentral – keep up the good work. Its very helpful to have someone like you providing us first hand information. Ive noticed a lot of other forums have started to use your Site as a de facto point of reference as well. Have to give credit where its due ;)

The only negatives Ive heard about this Screen were from Behardware review here:http://www.hardware.fr/articles/648-6/nec-multisync-lcd2690wuxi-1er-26-pouces.html (in french)
They seem to indicate that reaction time does not seem concur with the specs. This is new IPS Panel designed by LG especially for NEC. It could be that response times have been sacrificed to get outstanding colour reproduction. But then again this Screen is primarily targeted at Professional users.

Babelfish translation of their conclusion:
The notes of plays and films are not easy to put. On a side, objective, one can only regret the lack of reactivity of the screen in disproportion with the response time announced, like its swarming marked in the video sequences. On another side, subjective, to play and view films on a screen 26 inches prove very comfortable, and this same if one must be constrained in certain occasions by blurs, made imperfect. One can thus make concessions, even if it is known that there is much more reactive elsewhere. The final note can thus appear high taking into consideration these two gap: it is necessary to return to the public really concerned by this screen to include/understand it. It acts of a LCD for professionals of the image, above all. Once gauged (essential stage on this monitor, do not pass to you from there, its price does not mean at all that the colors are right of start) LCD2690WUXi proves to be a monitor capable of superb colors, much richer than the average, distinguishes to him from the invisible ranges on the traditional LCD even very high of range, the whole with quasi total angles of vision and a price rather close to that of the screens 24 inches.

In my view BE tend to over-critical about most screens so Id be v interested to see your review and if you verify if there is any ghosting on Video playback. Im not too bothered about gaming as long as HD Videos playback reasonably well then this screen would be fine for me.

thanks for the kind words kumar :) One thing to possibly bare in mind is that that could well be a pre-release sample proto-type of the screen, so final product MAY vary. The screen is designed for the professional market though so i wouldnt be surprised if response time was not quite as fast as spec might suggest. Will hopefully get hold of a sample very soon though so will let you know for sure :)

Maybe as you suggest BE are using a pre-production or old firmare or incorrect overdrive settings. Hopefully Video playback is not as bad as they suggest.

Theres NEC and then theres the rest of the manufacturers. Id be surprised if they dont deliver to spec. Looking forward to your findings.

hi baddass

i was just wandering about this monitor, have you recieved the sample?

what do you think about ths monitor compare to the benq 24?

for gaming and office and it has got 800 CS comapre to the Benq 24 1000 :(

i have had agood experience with nec 20.1 as you know so nec is def another consideration?

The Benq is taking forever which i,m still waiting?

also do you reckon there will be a 24wmgx2? :) (cracking screen if it is same spec and better from the 20wgx2)

thanks

hi ATI. I've not received the 2690WUXi yet, but it's on the cards soon. The release has been delayed a lot, and so NEC haven't had their samples in yet. Hopefully have chance to check it out soon. According to the only review available so far, it's not as responsive as the 20WGX2 for gaming, but tbh i wouldn't expect it to be. It's a screen aimed at colour enthusiasts and the corporate market, and so gaming performance and movie playback are not really key. I'd avoid if you want a top notch gaming screen, but will wait and see how it performs when i get a sample :)

There is a 24" NEC model coming out too, the NEC LCD2490WUXi, expected to use the 7ms G2G LG.Philips AS-IPS panel. Basically a bigger version of the 20WGX2, but it wont be released in Europe officially sadly. Will have to wait for more information before we can judge its performance though really

hi baddass

any news on the benq yet, either of them?

why nec not realsing the 24 in europe :(?
