Hi guys
I am about to buy NEC MultiSync® PA301W next week and I have been wondering whether it comes with a colour calibrator included in the price? I am sure there is built in colour calibration but I am unsure whether I may have to buy calibration device on top of already expensive monitor or I would find one included in the box as this video ( american however) shows https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RU0lpkiNJbA
I also have question with regards to Dell U3011 and colour uniformity: grey and white colour get distorted at the bottom of the screen ( not much but still noticeable - grey a bit worse than white btw) Not sure how to take it - as a fault or lottery with getting a panel with right colour uniformity?

Thanks for reading.

Unless you specifically buy the SpectraView package with NEC MDVSensor tool (now a rebranded i1 Display Pro, previously and i1 Display 2) then it won't come with a calibration tool. To make the most out of the screen you should have one really. Ideally you want to hardware calibrate the screen as well so you will need the SV II software (US) or actually buy the "reference" version of the screen if you want to use SV profiler (Europe)

Have a look at the TFtcentral reviews of the NEC PA screens for more info on that part as its a little confusing :)

That what I found:

Internal calibration mode only works with x-rite i1D2 colorimeters. NEC has a rebranded version they sell in a bundle, or you can buy your own.

What bundle? :) Cant google anything relevant really

Edit:

Yeah I read couple of reviews at Tftcentral and it becomes clearer. Thanks

You can use a lot of different tools for hardware calibration as long as they are supported by the relevant spectraview software. Includes quite a few. NEC just rebrand he i1 display 2 or i1 Display pro in their package they sell but you can use third party devices fine

I am just starting to think this screen would be to advance and too expensive for me. And there is no thing like Premium Panel Guaranty that Dell offers.
At the moment I have a Dell UltraSharp U2412M awaiting to be replaced due to a red pixel I developed ( that is the reason I would like to have a screen covered by zero dead pixel policy ) so I wanted to take the opportunity to upgrade for 30 inch for photography.
I had Dell U3011 for a while and wasn't entirely happy with anti glare coating and colour uniformity. I really didnt expect this kind of issue from a screen offered to professionals ( I thought that would be mainly small colour or brightness discrepancies barely noticeable ) There is not much to choose from : NEC MultiSync® PA301W, Dell U3011, HP ZR30w, Hazro HZ30Wif. In age of internet trade I really miss a showroom so I would check it with my own eyes. ( Overclockers are too far :P ) Can you please suggest something?
Thanks

Perhaps worth waiting for the forthcoming Dell U3014 which should be coming early in the new year. If anything like the new U2713H (also worth a look perhaps?) it should have light AG coating (the NEC PA301W and all the other models you've listed there have aggressive AG coating like the U3011 by the way!). It should also have hardware calibration, factory calibration, uniformity correction, sRGB emulation etc. but should be a lot less than models like the NEC

As I've said you may want to look at the wide range of 27" models as they are more cost effective and a lot to choose from

Have you considered if you want or need wide gamut support? What are your other uses for the screen day to day?

I was thinking about the new Dell but is not clearly said when is going to be released and I do not want to endlessly wait.
27 inch is not a big jump from my 24 inch screen as it doesn't give much more vertical pixels.
With regards to wide gamut I am not sure though. I only read about it and know only theoretical differences. I wouldn't guess so really. I am not going to use the screen as professional as photography is only a hobby. I have got budget like 1500 £ and would like to have a screen free of dead pixels and with not distorted colour in every part of the screen. I would really go for NEC PA301W but I have got reservation with lack of dead pixel policy for this particular model. On the other hand there is a U3011 you can get easily replaced but white colour has got a pink tint at the bottom of the screen.
Has Dell provided more info when U3014 will be available?

EDIT: Thanks for the info - I just read your previous posts on the forum. I will keep an eye on tftcentral then with regards to U3013 or maybe U3014? :)

sorry for delayed reply!

expected Feb 2013 at the moment and cant imagine it will be far off now we've seen the U2413 and U2713H models released

You'd be surprised! it has a much bigger screen size and the resolution bump is significant. may not be much more vertically but horizontally it's a big change and you really do notice the difference. far more choice in the 27" market too!

sounds like you probably dont need it. if you do get a wide gamut model, most have a decent sRGB emulation mode if you need to work in sRGB anyway so thats fine. if you look at 27" models you can save yourself a fair amount of money if you consider the standard gamut models like the Dell U2713HM, Asus PB278Q for instance
