NEC PA271W-BK

Review here.

Some comments on the monitor on ZDNet.

This comment may put you off:

However, the major problem of this monitor is the terrible anti-glare/matte coating. It's like a texture or pattern and unacceptable for a pro monitor. Although I have yet to find an IPS non-glossy without it.

Any other 27" screens before I put my order in for a U2410?

Not that I can think of.

Eizo have some expensive 27" screens but they look as if they have an anti-glare coating as well.

Are you not bothered by the ant-glare coating on the U2410?

Snippets from reviews:

The UltraSharp U2410 is an excellent performer and we didn’t have any issues with its sharpness, brightness, or colour accuracy. The only consideration is the slightly dirty look in white backgrounds caused by the anti-glare coating.

I don't understand why they make such a good monitor with such a bad anti-glare filter ( very "dirty screen" ). Now you can't use it for photography.

What really? I thought heavy anti-glare was only used on larger screens? Obviously not. Looks like ill have to look into an apple and the adapters & program calibration tools or a hazro... Failing that my iphone like now for the time being!

Does the u3011 use aggresive antiglare too. Whats the point in antiglare if it makes the screen look so crap anyway?

Surely only photographers and programmers use these types of screens anyway (in general) so would be best without it

The Dell U3011 has a similar coating.

I know, I'm looking at one now.

But what ya gonna do if you want the size, resolution and connectivity.

You could possibly consider the HP ZR30W.

It has limited connectivity, Dual Link DVI and DisplayPot.

There’s no onscreen display, nor programmable look-up tables to allow for hardware calibration. The front-mounted buttons do nothing more than flick between the DVI and DisplayPort inputs, adjust brightness, engage dynamic contrast and turn the monitor on and off.

The lack of an OSD reduces input lag to an almost non-existent 14ms.

I can't see much said about the anti glare coating but someone here says the coating on the HP has a much finer finish than the Dell.

If you Google some reviews the HP rates very highly.

If I didn't need the connectivity of the Dell it's the srcreen I would probably have bought.

Thanks Surveyor.

All I want to be able to do it connect the monitor to my graphics card and turn down the brightness. I have external amp and speaker setup so dont need any other the other stuff. Card SD reader would be nice but you can buy them for about £2 anyway!

The HP sounds good. Is it sold by ocuk?

Dam, at £1100 its £500 on top of the price I paid for my U2711. Is there a 27" version of the of the HPZR ?

OcUK don't sell HP monitors.

Unfortunately there's no HP equivalent to the Dell U2711.

I'd assumed that as you were asking about the Dell U3011 the HP would be in your price range.

It would seem that if you're in the market for a 27" monitor there's a rather limited choice if you don't want a screen with an aggressive anti-glare coating.

OcUK sell quite a few 27" monitors but apart from the Hazro and the Dell they're all 1920x1080 resolution.

Im looking for another IPS screen in glossy or light instead of aggressive anti-glare. Looks like either an Apple cinema display and all the hassle with controls & connectivity, a nasty Hazro with poor build quality and warranty or splash out another £500 on a 30" screen like the HP or possibly NEC/other screens

Indeed. I thought this would be a good place to bring this up. I've had a nice chat with Dimitri Haddeman (Senior Product & Program Manager for Flat Panels EMEA, Dell) this morning about this very issue and the general lack of choice for the consumer in the current Dell range. Whilst a lot of the information is confidential and can't be shared here I can say that they are aware of this issue. I will be chatting with another gentleman over on the consumer side of things later this week or next week and I can assure you that Dell really do care about user feedback such as this. I'd like to think it helps if these comments come from somebody with a bit of influence and experience but actually voicing these issues is always important as a regular user.

Good stuff PCM2. I called Dell and asked if they could remove the anti-glare coating and was told they couldnt. I asked if they could put in a word with manufacturing regarding this but they didnt seem too interested.

Personally I dont have much experience (in manufacturing or Dell products?) but I have owned Dell products for many years both personal and business. (The current company I am working for signed a £15 million contract with Dell for EMEA rollout)

I am willing to spend the same amount of money and a bit more on a U2711 without the harsh antiglare. But not willing to spend £650+ on another U2711 as it is ruined by the antiglare

I suppose it depends who you speak to within Dell. I imagine it's beyond the scope and pay grade of customer service representitives to escalate any 'problem' such as that to the engineers or higher management. Being able to speak to a Senior Manager (just the right person for this) and his counterpart on the consumer side is/will be only possible because of my contacts within Dell's public relations department. Although your 'word' wasn't passed on the same 'word' has been noted due to feedback on forums such as this, review websites and other online communities so it all adds up. It's good that you've posted here, for example, as it raises awareness further and you have noted your dissatisfaction publically.
