Nectar points worth it ?

Are they even worth bothering about now, do you even get money off a petrol bill with them is it even worth it?

Everytime you use a nectar card is what you purchased basically put in a huge database somewhere with your name on it ?
 
So you cant use nectar points to get so much off your petrol/groceries bill etc ?
