Live in the sticks and on aDSL from adsl24 and 99% of time sync @ 5600 which means I get 4.5 IP Profile. However am I right in thinking if I get it above 5696 I get a 5meg profile?

If so which router should I upgrade to as currently on a 5yr old DG834G. The router is plugged into main socket with a BT branded DSL filter.

Any ideas what to do/change?

Current Stats;

Code:
                     Up Down
Speed 5600 kbps 448 kbps
Line Att 42 db 12.5 db
Noise Margin 7 db 24 db

Gonna be hard pressed to get better than the 834 for long lines - have you got it flashed to the DGTeam firmware so you can try reducing the SNR percentage to see if you can get a higher stable sync?

Using a DG834GT here with 42.5db downstream attenuation - tho slightly better SNR @ ~5500 - and can get 10Mbit if I sync at the right time of day by reducing the SNR percentage a little (sometimes gets a little unstable in the evenings if I push it tho).

Could be you need to update the firmware to get ADSL2+ support on the modem side, the 448kbps upload speed suggests your still on ADSLMAX connection and not a ADSL2/2+

Use a program called "RouterStats", to set you're SN to 3 or 4 DB less than you have now, easy to do with the DG834GT.

DMT (Tool) 8.07 can also do that with the 834 - however unlike teh DGTeam firmware you have to do it manually every time the router restarts.

No adsl2 I believe, just normal ADSL

I'll have a look at them when home tonight would prefer to not put on diff firmware unless needed and seeing it currently has 700 odd hours up time not that big deal do now and then!

I would double check with your service provider because with the 42db loss you have you should easy top the 6000kbps download and 800kbps upload with ADSL2/2+ so you are on a ADSLMAX connection.;)

I meant "no" as in there is nothing more than bog standard adslmax at exchange, not that I do already have it...

No probs shame that you only have ADSLMAX at the exchange, with this you will have to use the DMT tool or DD-WRT to force the modem to sync at a higher rate but that will leave the sync unstable if you go too far.

I have had problems on my business line the last week, would only sync on ADSL2 best SYNC 4500kbps/800kbps.

Got BT Openreach out and engineer found that there was a problem with the line had POOR Joints and damaged cables. Found a better pair to swap me onto back at the exchange and connection to a new DSLAM and now have this

ADSL2+ 7200kbps Down, 1200kbps Up

When he called back to the house to run a full check he said that this was going to be the best that they could do as the line length is just over 3.5km!! Which ain't bad at all;);)
