Hi guys, I need you help and advice on this setup. I currently have a stock case, mobo and cooler on my Pc and can't get it past 3.0 without things getting stupidly hot.

I need these 3 things....
A new case

A new motherboard for a Q9550 quad core processor that will let me overclock it from 2.83 to 3.6

A good cooler that will let me cool my CPU easily enough so I can get a decent OC and will fit into my new case without too many problems.

What sort of budget would I be needing to consider? £200 enough or would I need more??

Should most of the money go on a cooler and mobo or what???

If anyone with 5 mins, that has a decent amount of experience, that can recommend the 3 best things to order, I'd really appreciate your time and efforts.

What make motherboard do you have currently (I know you say its stock but it must have been made by someone)

Case? Cheapest I'd go for nowadays is Antec 300. Cooling would be Corsair H50. That would leave you about 100 notes for the motherboard. I'd try & get a new or used P35 Chipset board as these tend to be better for overclocking than P45 chipset boards (So I've heard)

For the optical drive you only need one of these. The PSU you have will have SATA power connectors on it.

You've heard wrong there Grimley lad ;), there is no way on this planet that any P35 chipset based board will outclock a decent P45 board such as the Asus P5Q pro a bargain at 90 quid.

This mobo should let you overclock the Q9550 over 3.5 easily and the cooler can deal with the heat very well.I personally use this cooler on my pc and keeps my [email protected] at 29*C idle and underload in prime95 never got above 49*C.The case is a good case but if you want you can change it with a Antec 300 and save a few bucks.Your choice.

Well then get the Asus P5Q-Deluxe as I said. It's one of the best Sk775 overclockers. Now about the RAM.I suggest you get something like 1066Mhz or 1333Mhz if you want to get to 3.3 and up.So yeah you'll need new RAM if you want to overclock that high.I used a 1066Mhz RAM and clocked it to 1100Mhz.

ok mate I'm taking your advice on the MOBO  cheers
just need a few more suggestions on case and cooler...

The p5q deluxe is a great board (used one with both q6600/q9550 at 3.8ghz) but its still a bit pricey for an s775 board, id look at the cheaper p5q pro which will save you a few quid to spend on other bits, the pro should clock just as well.
