Hey guys,

need 4 new tyres for my E46 330CI, so 225/35 R18 for the back and 225/40 for the front. Thinking of getting Conti SPC3 but when I look on mytyres or camskill it offers two SPC3's in both sizes one dearer than the other, what is the difference?

Also is there any other make I should consider?

Cheers,
Murzo

In both sizes, one of the options is a manufacturer "spec/factory fit" tyre. Pick the ones that do not say Audi and Mercedes respectively.

Just pick the cheapest. The manufacturers approval is only there because they are an OEM tyre. The actual tyre is the same.

330i should have 255 rears, no? My 330d did. 255/35/R18 rear and 225/40/R18 front, thus keeping the rolling radius very similar between the two.

225/35/R18 rear and 225/40/R18 front would make the ride horrid.

Not sure what is different between them and the normal CSC3's.

I'm after two new front tyres and I was wondering the same thing. There is def a price difference:

Continental SportContact 3

245/40 R18 97Y XL with raised rim rib, M0, BSW - £204
245/40 ZR18 97Y XL with raised rim rib, BSW* - £181

I'm going to go with the latter, but was interested anyway.

There is no difference. When a tyre manufacturer enters a contract with a car manufacturer to produce x% of tyres for a new or current model they will manufacture those tyres with the car brands mark if they have one.

The tyre manufacturers bank on people buying oem tyres for around three sets of tyres from when the car is new so they manufacture extra tyres with the car brands mark on so people see the same tyre the car came with fitted afterwards and pay the premium for it. The tyres are exactly the same compound just the die they are cast in has a brands manufacturer on the sidewall.

I have M0 on mine as well, infact I've not seen non M0 CS3's available in my size (265/35/18).

Same with SC5s I dont think any non MO option tyres ever made it on the market here.

They still do non M0 for my rears (275/35 ZR18), guess that isn't a common Merc sizing.

If M0 makes not difference I don't have to worry anyway. This should be the last pair of CS3s I buy.

what is a Z radial?

I always thought R was construction, 97 the load rating and Y for speed which makes XL the approval mark, I'll dig out the hillers book later
