hey guys.

okay, so i do a lot of downloading and i mean a lot and it used to be that i would have a download speed of 1 - 2 mps on a late 2009 imac's airport device connected to a belkin surf n300 router with a 20mb connection to virgin media.

but after building a rig for the first time and putting in a:

Asus PCE-N15 300Mbps 802.11B/G/N Wireless PCI-E Network Adapter

my download speed has dropped to 200 - 500 kps whilst connected to the same router and connection.

so i was wondering if anyone could suggest an adapter that could get me up to the sort of speeds i had with the imac? money is no issue here BTW.

yeah sorry i ment to add, it dose have to be wireless.

(or ells if got to figure out a way to get a really long cable to the other side of the house, go up a floor and hide it so the missus wont moan)

Hmm, it seems strange that you have such low speeds, what's the wifi signal/speed like? Even on a 54mbps adapter I can max out my connection (only 750kb/s tops, but still :p).

What are file transfer speeds over the network like?

You have a pretty decent card so it shouldn't be giving you any issues., unless it's faulty?

I used to have a temperamental wireless adapter; sometimes the download speeds would be good, other times not, sometimes it would keep on disconnecting, other times not. Getting rid of it and replacing it with an ethernet cable felt good! I'd recommend the same.

If it is a static rig try powerline should give you better speed and stability than any wireless connection unless you house was wired in the dark ages.
