I'm looking to upgrade my monitor to one with more acreage.

The problem is that I know very little about this stuff and from reading others' posts it seems that if I got too big a monitor - I'm hoping for something around 27" or 28" - then my graphics card might not be able to cope, then there's stuff about the resolutions...its all Greek!

Currently I have a Samsung SyncMaster T220 (Resolution: 1,680x1,050) like this http://www.cnet.com/uk/products/samsung-syncmaster-t220/ and my graphics card is a GTX570 - a little bit old in the tooth perhaps when I see most people using the 7000 series now. However, both the above bits of kit work well, I just want to get more viewing area.

What I was hoping was someone could say "yes/no that graphics card needs upgrading first" and/or "go look at the xxxxx monitor". I haven't got any problems changing graphics cards and price is not a major issue..well, within reason anyway.

Thanks for any assistance.

EDIT: oh and I mostly game on my PC, such as Battlefield 4 and watch a few movies occasionally.

It would depend on the resolution you're looking to change to. At 1080p your card will be fine, but you may need to adjust some settings for a more consistent 60+ fps.

If you were looking to go 1440p or 1600p, you would most definitely need to upgrade your card first.

What is your budget?

If you are just gaming, I would recommend a 120hz/144hz monitor.

Well after a bit of browsing I quite like the looks of these 27" jobbies:

Samsung SyncMaster S27C590H 27" Widescreen Slim Bezel LED Monitor - Black £199.99

BenQ GW2750HM 27" Widescreen LED Professional Monitor - Black £179.99

Iiyama Prolite X2783HSU-B1 27" AMVA Widescreen LED Monitor - Black £179.99

I looked at the 120 / 144Hz monitors only most seem to be 24" or 3D which is only 2" larger than my current one so Im thinking not much of an advantage there, and Im not interested in 3D gaming. The only one that seemed reasonable was this

Iiyama Prolite GB2773HS-GB1 144Hz 27" Widescreen LED 1MS Monitor - Black £269.99 - but its out of stock

Is 144Hz really that good to justify an additional £90? Especially when to do it justice I would probably need to upgrade to a GTX770 or something. Money isn't an issue within reason, as long as its good value for money.
