ahoy all, im the market for a new car, i have a budget of 4000 and want a nice hatchback, insurance will be a killer so i cant afford insurance for anything above a 1.6. (and thats close to 900 from elephant!)

i have seen this leon for sale

and its literally a 10 minute walk away so can go see it anytime.

now ive never bought a high mileage car before. ive only had one car which is the 307 from new (never again), will there be many troubles with this car with the mileage its done? and what sort of things should i look for when i go to view it?

S is the lowest spec in the range - I should know as I have one :>

Things to look for besides the usual crash damage etc:

Leaky doors and seals - notorious problem. Look for wet carpets/smell of wet dog - not pleasant. Fixing usually involves silicon sealant in the doors to plug up the leaky bits. Costs around £100 per door to get sealed. There are some DIY guides at seatcupra.net.

Cambelt is 40K on these engines so given the mileage (80k/5 years = 16K per year) I'd look for the 2nd change to be done prior to purchase if it hasn't been done already.

Can't think of anything very important git now but mine has been very reliable (although only do half the mileage)

Looks ok from the pictures - try to haglle the price down a shade maybe? Mine is of similar age and has only done 30K but valued at 3500 or less....

I wouldn't call that one high mileage :p

I would, my company car is on 90k and due to be replaced in Oct. It can't come soon enough, everything has gone wrong with this damh thing.

I wouldn't call it high milage either. Mine has now done 74,000 miles and really doesn't feel like it at all.

They handle miles well if looked after properly.

My Leon Cupra Sport 1.8T has done just over 160,000 miles! Still runs sweet, pulls hard and doesn't burn any oil :D
