Need a car with high MPG!

Currently I'm doing a lot of long distance driving and it is really cutting into my finances, even though it is a 1.2 XSI Corsa. I don't think the high millage is helping here either at 103k.

So what car that is either petrol or diesel would you recommend I look towards that has a fantastic MPG? - Second hand cars only please

URBAN MPG 30.4
EXTRA-URBAN MPG 43.1 ( might be lower now )
COMBINED MPG 37.7

Personally I've been looking for fantastic MPG for some time now.

Why not keep it instead of spending more on a new/used car, offset the cost on fuel instead?

Very wise words Vita However the fact that it is has a very high millage, head gasket issues it wont last for ever anyway.

If you haven't worked out approximately how many miles you will be doing it is impossible to determine if a new car is efficient enough to warrant the capital outlay.

As for the top 10 list, what you will find is the most of the cars will be quite modern which means you won't be able to pick them up that cheaply - certainly not within your £1000 budget.
