Hi peeps, as far as cases go I'm a complete noob. I still have the basic midi tower that came with my PC from when I was 18.

I'm wondering if you can help me with a couple of things. I have always been reluctant to spend money on a fancy case as I go for function over form almost always. What are the benefits of going for a fantastic case, and why would I bother investing £100 in something that might be just as good as my basic generic tower?

Secondly, which modern cases are out there that could handle two WD 120Gb drives for mass storage as well as two WD Raptors 74Gb in RAID 0 for windows / games?

Your help is much appreciated.

Whats your budget?

Anything you buy for £100 (bar a vento :D) will be better than a generic case

Akasa Eclipse - Ugly but one of the best cases available

Lian Li PC7+ - Good case, bit tight on HD space maybe (has 3 HD bays + 2 3.5 external bays that can be used) but very good value for money

Super Lanboy - Bit small but decent cooling and you could fit 4x S-ata drives (IDE would be a bit cramped) also very cheap for what you get.

CoolerMaster Stacker - Not to everyones taste, absolutely huge and loads of space or HDs/optical drives.

CoolerMaster Praetorion (new version) - Not a bad case, cooling isnt the best but fairly large and I personally like the looks)

Lian Li V1000+ - Great case, bit overbudget and could be a problem with 4HDs if you want to use a modular PSU.

P180 - Good case, very quiet but not the best build quality

Thermaltake do some nice cases, the armour/armour junior would be ok for your needs but don't expect amazing build quality.

most midi cases will have room enough for 4 HDD's.

as you will no doubt have read everyone reccomends the Lian-Li PC7 or PC-61, however in your case you would be best to choose the PC61/60 as it has 5 HDD bays.

omg did I just say that?

:p

Thanks for dropping some names by me, my budget depends on the benefits, as I'm stil not what they are as such. I suppose I'm still trying to work out whether or not the cooling / noise benefits will really be that much better than my basic white generic case.

Were I to buy a new case I'd preferably be spending £50-£75 or thereabouts.

My Jeantech Light Fusion is surprisingly good for its price. Holds 4 HDD's, 2 Floppy's & 4 CD Drive's. Costs around £40, depends where you buy it.

Or get a super lanboy for £5 less :p

Jeantech looks a bit naff tbh...and the build quality is generally very basic (yes, I have owned one), all steel so they are heavy, use 80mm fans so loud.

There ar emuch better cases for the money (the Jeantech phong being one of them)

PC6* are dire! Overpriced for what they are! PC7+ with a £5 Hdd expander will obliterate a PC6* in everything, just avoid them!

Eclipse or the Aurora would get my vote, the v1000+ would be great if you were not using a modular PSU, with 4 hard drives you really shouldnt be using modular as it wont cut down on cable clutter, especially in a V series.

Eclipse
Aurora
v1000+ with a non modular PSU
PC7+ with a HDD cage expander.

In that order would be the cases I would go for, the PC6* are good cases but dated, and not near the value for money a PC7+ would offer.

I have the CM Stacker(older one what ever it is) Comes with a 4 in 1 hard drive bay which can hold 4 hard drives and theres lots of room for DVD drives
