Hi there,

I'm looking for a case with at least 10 internal hard disk bays.

A friend recommended the LianLi PC-V2000 case. This looks great except for the lack of acoustic padding. Are there any other cases I should look at? It needs to look "serious" (i.e. no side windows or silly colours). It'll be used to build a video editing system.

Many thanks,
Jack

Avoid it completely, increases temperatures and does nothing for the noise.

v2000+ is a excellent case, I would stress that you make sure the case is a + version though, much better than the vanilla v2000.

A v1000 or v2000 without the + is not worth a look in my books, the + cases have better cooling and slightly better build with PSU compatability being unquestionably better in them.

I've just done loads of reseach and ended up ordering a V2000 PLUS aswell, for £162 from here, the cheapest price around! Its 1-3 days availability at the moment though.

It holds 12 HDDs + Loads more in racks if required, loads of room for everything else, and its long enough to hold modular PSU's aswell i think, the V1000 will not hold modular psu's!

As Yewen says there's no need for acoustic padding.

I've got 10 HDDs in a V2100+, all suspended on shock cord mounts and you can't hear them at all at idle and the seek noise is minimal.

If you're after a "serious" look then the V2100+ is probably a better bet than the V2000+, with the door shut the black version has a real 2001 monolith look going on. The only problem is the lack of indication if it's on with the door shut.

If you need that many I would start looking into a dedicated "hard disc" server racking system, and not bunging it into a PC case.

The case in question could cope fine with those numbers. :)

If you go much higher then yes, you really do need a purpose built solution but to about 16 drives a full tower case should be able to cope.

Hi,

Yeah, I was initially planning to build an external hard disk array. But I've gone off that idea because it seems to be both more expensive and more complex than installing all the drives into the same case as the motherboard!

Thanks,
Jack
