Guys, please can someone help. i have vista 64 and 2x SATA DVDRW drives. Neither freerip, or Fairstars are picking up audio discs inserted into either drive (pair of pioneer 18x dvdrw).

i could really do with ripping asap~!

thanks

EAC is regarded as the best ripping program and best of all it's free. This guide is all you'll need. Might look a bit daunting but the instructions are simple to follow and it doesn't take that long to set up. Once you've configured it, ripping is a doddle and you'll get excellent results.

you need lame if you are ripping to mp3. if you are ripping straight to wave, you dont need it. however if you want to keep 100% of the originals quality, then rip to flac instead of wav. still true to the original but about 60% of the size.

I assumed OP was wanting to rip to mp3. You're correct, flac is the best option if storing the rips onto hard disk but flac can be a royal pain to install in vista 64 from what i've read.

shouldnt be, its just an .exe really like the Lame encoder. I've not had any problems with mine anyway:)

if you look up the cd in freedb (database\get cd info from\freedb) before you start the rip then the tags will be done with the rip.

you must have a golden touch. I had problems in vista32 (got it working eventually) but maybe a new version of flac has been released more compatible?

oh, are you downloading it with the installer and front end too? i just got the bare encoder since i knew i'd only be using it with EAC. perhaps that's what it is?

flacs are lower bitrate than cd files but they lose no musical information whatsoever. They're just compressed.
