Hi all,

Got my son the following PC for free:

HP Pro 3500
Processor - 1 x Intel Core i3 (3rd Gen) 3220 / 3.3 GHz ( Dual-Core )
Memory - 4 GB (installed) / 8 GB (max) - DDR3 SDRAM - non-ECC - 1333 MHz - PC3-10600
Hard Drive - 1 x 500 GB - SATA-600
Optical Drive - DVD±RW (±R DL) / DVD-RAM
Cache Memory - 3 MB

Found a GTX 650ti in the loft I was going to chuck in.

The PSU in the machine is an FH-XD301MYF-1 which is only 300w and doesn't have 6 pin or even any of the old style molex connections to take any of the 6 pin adapters I have here.

I need to get a new PSU for it, was thinking about 500w does this seem about right?

I've googled "500w psu" and the first hit is a £13 one from a competitor.... surely this is absolute garbage?

Do PSU's these days still run the risk of taking out other hardware etc if they go pop?

Can anyone recommend a reputable alternative? or vouch for this one?

I got it so he could do his home-work on it, but he wants to use his pocket money to upgrade the PC so it can play rocket league too, as cheaply as possible. I've said he can have the 650ti to put in, but don't think a 300w PSU will cut it? and whilst I could just buy a PSU for him, I kind of like the idea of him using his money for something he wants. Plus if I spend £40 on him then his sisters will be like "why does he get something and we don't?! It's not even his birthday etc etc"

Thanks,

G
