Hi everyone,

Im new to these forums and I thought id kick it off by requesting some advice on an upgrade.

My Current Spec:

Pentium 4 3.0Ghz Prescott 478
ASUS P4U800 Motherboard
1GB DDR400 RAM (2x512 not dual channel)
GeForce 6800GS AGP
80GB IDE 133 HDD
3com NIC 10/100
Windows XP Licenced Version

All i use the computer for is gaming and internet messaging (email etc..). I want to upgrade because some of the latest games just wont play, my graphics card is amazing and it should be peforming better.

Id like some advice on upgrading my system, I am willing to goto AMD too, the only request I have is that I can still use my 6800GS because I paid a lot of money for it about 2 months ago.

If anyone can help me i'd be really grateful

Thanks,

Andy

How much are you willing to spend if going AMD. I think you should stay Intel and get a low end Conroe, it'll still beat an extreme edition [email protected]! You could even sell your current gear to get a bit more money towards it.

Welcome to the forums by the way! :)

I would personally sell the card and move to PCI-Express since most motherboards for conroe and AM2 are PCI-E. I think the 6800GS is slightly slower than the 7600GT depending on the game. I'm afraid your current card is now low-midrange and won't really hold up that well for current games (such as Oblivion, Fear) and future games.
