Need a cheap tripod

save your money, then save some more, then buy a decent tripod, as you will eventually, £100 will get a decent tripod/head combo.
 
Would budget for more, but Velbon do some cheapies at around £20 - £30.
There's a high street retailer bound to sell them...
 
i have the velbon 640 until i can afford a better sturdier one. it is light and a down side it has no hook for your bag to wiegh it down either but for 30-40 notes its probably one of the better ones out there.

Buy cheap by twice. again go to a store and see how it feels compared to your height as you dont want to be hunched over when taking pics.
 
On a related note, what would people recommend if you dont have the space or dont want to lug around a tripod? Beanbag, gorillapod?

Or a lampost.

Or a wall.

Find something to brace yourself against.

Not that this will help with a self-portrait of course but don't dismiss the utility of things around you tht you don't have to carry.

a monopod is handy, and within budget for a nice manfrotto one - doubles as a walking / rambling stick too.
 
Monopods and tripods have entirely different purposes. You can't use a monopod to remove camera shake for long exposures in the way a beanbag or gorillapod can.

I got some decent shots with a monopod and 4-8 sec exposures. mind you that was fireworks in november so had the camera also rested on my forehead pointed at the sky.
 
miranda titan camera / vidio tripod- just got this off the bay for £12.If it is no good i can sell it on.

Is it any good?
 
depends what your putting on it

p&s or slr? if slr, weight of body + lense & filter(s)? will the legs and head take the strain?

my guess is for £12 it isnt going to be upto much use other than for p&s
