i replaced my old lga775 mobo with a 1155 mpb for my new i5 cpu on will i have to do a clean install of os for this mobo? if so can i use linux? even though i had win7 pro installed before?
You should do a clean install but you might be able to get away without. You can use Linux. Do you want to install it over the Win7 installation or side by side?
Are you at college or uni?
If you are you may be able to get a free copy from msdnaa.
OEM license? You're probably out of luck.
To elaborate on what KIA said. If you originally purchased an OEM Windows license with your previous motherboard, you would need to buy another Windows license to stay 100% legal, unless that is, your old motherboard died.
- Download the ISO for whichever version of Windows 7 you are licensed for.
- Burn it to a DVD or create a bootable USB Flash Drive using this.
- Install Windows 7
