Need two for my case and possibly one to replace the fan that came with my Alpenföhn Matterhorn Pure

What's the best available?

My two current case fans are Scythe S-FLEX SFF21**1600 RPM

Model: S-FLEX SFF21F*Air Flow: 63.7 CFM*Fan Speed: 1600 RPMNoise Level: 28 dBA*Power: .20A*Bearing Type: S-FDB (Fluid Dynamic Bearing - SONY Corporation)*Fan Size: 120x120x25 MM*Connector: 3-pin (4-pin adaptor included)

After a bit of digging these look good for the case -

Akasa AK-FN059 120mm Ultra Quiet Venom Viper Cool Fan - 3/4 Pin

- Dimension: 120 X 120 X 25mm
- Fan speed: 600 -1900 RPM
- Max airflow: 83.63 CFM (141.75 m3/h)
- Max static air pressure: 2.98 mm H2O
- Noise level: 6.9 -28.9 dB(A)
- Fan life expectancy: 50,000 hours
- Connector: 4pin PWM

But how about a good one for the heatsink as I believe they need high static pressure?

These look even better actually

Noiseblocker NB-eLoop Fan B12-P - 120mm PWM

Dimensions: 120 x 120 x 25 mm
Noise level: max. 28.4 dB (A)
Speed: max. 800-2000 U / min
Airflow: max. 132.4 m³ / h
Starting voltage: 6 V
Power consumption: 1.92 W
Connector: 4-pin PWM

Hey winston, i have scythe gentle typhoons 1850's and the akasa venoms in my case, the venoms are getting replaced for some more GT's due to noise. The gt's are fantastic, very quiet upto 1000rpm, and quite bearable after, highly recommended.

I have found that buying fans that both cool in the way that one wishes AND stay reasonably quiet is a bit of a lottery.

Rule of thumb - more cfm = more noise :(

Also when looking at reviews , partic. users, matters such as what case they are in , what fan speed they are actually running at , how the fans are controlled are hardly mentioned.

Have learnt that the fact that someone says that such and such are great at cooling and silent does not mean that such will be the situation- more likely that the noise level to me will be 'blo... awful' / unacceptable.

Am currently running 3 x 200mm + 2 x 120mm +1 x 140mm case fans (mostly nzxt - as they came with the case). These are run at the minimum speed allowed by the case fan controleer and are to me very nearly silent; but they do produce enough air to keep things cool.

I was running a prolimatech mega cooler and used Apache fans (push/pull config) until I switched to (firstly an Eco ALc and latterly) a corsair h60 to which is attached one of the Apache's.

Running PWM ( Which I would strongly recomend) on the cpu cooling fan I find that the fan speed varies between 700 and 1200 rpm - the former being, practically, silent but the latter I can hear. BUT it very rarely exceeds 1000rpm (IBT runs get me to its fastest) and in normal use , including gaming , I do not notice it.

Recently there has been some criticism of the Apaches but as they worked for me I can only recommend:)

BTW - Never keen , personally , of the Vipers - took/have taken the view that they possibly provided too much additional noise for a small cooling performance gain. The noiseblocker Multiframe fans look interesting.

Overall would suggest trial and error approach - buy one and see.( Could be expenive tho:eek:)

As PWM fans go, the Alpenfohn wingboost 120's are pretty good. Ive used them as case and cooler fans, (on a k2, prolimatech super mega and a TRUE). Airflow is good and noise at full speed isnt too loud. Have them running at 400 rpm at idle and theyre inaudible.
