So I need a few bits for my car, just thought I would ask for a bit of advice prior to getting it sorted.

Firstly the heater has prety much stopped working unless the car is left to idle and the temp gague sits just above cold when driving. I assume after reading this is the thermostat that has gone so needs replacing?

Secondly the brake pad warning light has come on so I need some new pads. I am a bit throttle and brake heavy

Now we have a mechanic who rents one of our buildings who we sometimes get to work on our vehicles for money off rent etc. Now I think hes a bit of a numpty who doesnt know what he is doing. Is replaceing the thermostat and the pads a pretty simple job or could he mess anything up getting it wrong?

Where would the cheapest place be to order the parts?

Alternatively I would book it into the local garage and let them do the work but then I would need to get insured on my dads car for a day or 2.

Thirdly the central locking does not work using the key buttons. I thought the battery was dead so took it apart and realised its a rechargeable battery so I guess the things just broke. Once or twice after hammering the buttons it has locked the doors but wont unlock. To get a new key do I have to go to a dealer and how much is it looking to cost?

I am also looking to upgrade from the standard business cd unit to a new headunit with good ipod functionality. I have a big old one I want to just store in the glovebox. I like the look of the alpine ida-x305s However I have an aftermarket motorolla hands free kit in my car I don't want to lose. Do you have to buy the alpine bluetooth module?

Are there any other headunits reccomended? I have a sub built into a stealth box I would like to fit. Also need a sensible small amp to power it.

Appreciate any responses.

Pads are simple, I am assuming it's an E46. 642BM0083 from GSF about 25+ vat,do a cheaper set as well. Sensor is about 8 quid. GSF sell the thermostat can't think if the number of the top of my head. Only problem people have with these is bleeding the cooling system.
