I have an old Alienware AMD system.
It currently has this spec:
  • AMD 4600+ X2
  • 2 GB PC2-3200
  • Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe
  • 2 x 160GB WD in R0
  • BFG 8800 GTS 640
  • Enermax Noisetaker 600W

The bottlenecks you can see are the CPU, and thus the mobo, and thus the memory.
Therefore I am thinking of ditching these components, flogging them for peanuts on the bay, and buying replacement ones.

I have initially got my eye on these components:
A grand total of £265.81

What do people think?

Ideally I don't want to spend more than £250-

Why do you need sli for a future upgrade? I can see no reason why you know that, because you don't know what the new cards are going to be like, and your current card isn't worth sli-ing.

really?
okay then, could you spec me a good Intel chipset one then - don't know enough about them! lol

Hello skippo, what will be the main purpose of this system and if you game, what sort of resolution do you game at? :)

Hi,

  • Yes I game, and this PC should be able to play most modern games (maybe not crysis :D (I have my pc in my sig for that!!:p), but others should run seamlessly...)
  • The monitor I am using at the mo is a 1280x1024, this is unlikely to change for a long time.
  • I will hold fire on a new GPU for the time being, as this I believe is not the main bottleneck to my system, and I can't afford a massive upgrade.
  • The uses of this PC: gaming, browing, word processing, folding - (every now and again)
Cheers,
