I will be upgrading my pc soon and have looked at the DFI board with the OCZ 3200 2gb platinum.

I thought about this and would rather plump the money into the new 7900 nvidia are releasing hopefully in March.

So for a decent board and RAM what would you go for?

The cheaper ultra DFI board? and do I really need the platinum RAM if I wont be OC'ing the board? I was looking at a X2 4400 for the CPU.

Pros and cons of mobos and RAM would be greatly appreciated.

At the moment spending 150 on the mobo and 185 on the ram. I would like to get it down to around 250 for both if possible. Will I really notice tht much difference in terms of FPS in games if I go for the lower spec board and RAM?

Asus A8N-SLi Premium nForce4 SLi (Socket 939) PCI-Express Motherboard (MB-111-AS) £123.32
Corsair 2GB DDR XMS3200C2PT TwinX (2x1GB) CAS2 (MY-079-CS) £150.34 (Weekly offer)
Or if u want to be at £250 then:-
GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC3200 Value Dual Channel Kit CAS3 (GE2GB3200BDC) (MY-046-GL) £129.19
(all prices inc VAT)

If your not overclocking then i'd go for the Asus over the DFI as its got no chipset fan plus Asus make quality boards. Note the DFI can be fussy with Corsair memory if u dont get the memory timings spot on (and theres a lot of memory timing options!) so if u want the DFI Ultra (i have one) then dont get Corsair.

This is what I would go for, you don't really need sli IMO:

MB-014-DF DFI LanParty UT NF4 Ultra-D (Socket 939) PCI-Express Motherboard (MB-014-DF)
£84.95 £84.95
MY-057-OC OCZ 2GB (2 x 1GB) PC3200 Dual Channel Platinum Series EL-DDR CAS2 (OCZ4002048ELDCPE-K) (MY-057-OC)
£144.95 £144.95
Subtotal £229.90
VAT £40.24
Total £270.14

Does it make that much difference if you dont over clock getting lower spec mobo and RAM? Is there such a thing as a conversion rate for FPS for this type of thing? I know it depends on the game but what would a non overclocked 400 quid setup gain over say a 270 quid setup?

I agree, I cant see any reason for a SLI setup as I wont be using it.

and where are you quoting th prices from? :)

Thanks for the help BTW.
