I'm trying to source a 80/120/160GB hard-drive for the above laptop, like a noob I bought a standard IDE 120GB laptop hard-drive but this doesnt fit. What is the actual connection of these Dell laptop as it isnt IDE or SATA. Any ideas where I can source one from.

On the original hard disk, is there a shroud covering the IDE pins? Laptop manufacturers often fit them to make removing/replacing the hard disks easier. If there is it should be relatively easy to remove & reveal the IDE pins.

Other than that, there is a third party vendor who does bespoke hard drives that will fit your model, but because they're a e-tailer I can't post a direct link. The part code is: DELL-120/4-NB15 for a 120Gb drive.

(Mods: If this is unacceptable please edit/delete)

It is an IDE drive, it just has an adaptor plugged onto the pins. it just pulls of, and then you can fit it to the new drive

HP have an adaptor, the pins come out the case at right angles and the adaptor allows the hard drive to sit flush, parallel to the mobo.

As Davey said, just pull the adaptor off and fit it to the new drive.

Yeah. Pull the adaptor off and fit it to the new drive. It's in a caddy too. You'll need to remove that.

Had a look and theres not way a standard IDE laptop hard-drive will fit.

The IDE drive has pins, the orginal dell drive has a strip of contacts simular to that found on Memory.

Any ideas?
