Hi there,

I need a digital TV card.

The only real requirement is that is compatible with linux, specifically KnoppMyth if the distro matters?

What is there thats good out there.

Max £45.00

Thanks...

Hey,

No problem, everyone seems to be hijacking my threads today.

I can recommend the Nebula cards for your budget, the best out there and I am sure everyone will agree.

Thanks...

i'm not sure how good these really are

i've been using an Analogue Hauppauge TV Card for ages coz my PC is in my bedroom and it's great, except the reception is a bit poor, probly coz of internal PC noise or a weak tuner.

Anyway, not long ago my sister got a Digital Hauppauge TV Card and we never successfully got it working, even after trying everything possible we had to send it back :(

you could plug a freeview receiver into a Gfx card that has VIVO maybe ?

I've got a Nebula card and it is very sweet, but quite expensive. So if you have a £100 budget, go for it (they also did student discount a little while back, not sure if they still do)

I bought the Freecom stick two weeks ago... Excellent :)

They all have the same quality clips tbh - they just show whats coming through the aerial :)
The Nebula is the best though mate simply, I can record loads of channels at the same time and watch one aswell (if they're on the same multiplex, if different one you can buy a slave usb system for cheap), while pausing it its plenty powerful.

I'd personally say its worth the money, like you I want a good one for cheap so I bought the compro - its good enough for recording and watching but it is very cpu intensive and isnt half as stable as the Nebula, the Nebula recording functions epg etc are much better aswell as a lot more features.
The compro takes ages to scan channels aswell, which doesnt matter as you dont do it much but the Nebula does it instantly.

I got the Compro digi/analog one from here, pretty good, supposed to be able to use it with WMC too. Also has auto power on/off for scheduling stuff.

Hi there,

Is the freecom stick compatible with Linux and does it have hardware or softare encoding?

Thanks...

Digital only tuners dont have encoding, digital broadcasts are already mpeg2, they are simply saved onto the hdd.
