never had need for a display port cable before but need one for my vive as its a pain keep switching the hdmi from my tv (yes i use a tv for my main monitor) to the vive every time i want to play. which one would do the job? looked through the oc store but im a bit lost

Just be warned that using DP is a crapshoot with the Vive if you have an nVidia GPU. I got random 2-second blackouts on mine. Some people couldn't get the HMD to be detected at all.

I'd recommend getting a DP-to-HDMI convertor cable for your TV instead, and leaving the Vive on the native HDMI port.

As ArmitageShanks says, lots of reports of problems running the Vive on DP.

Just get the cheapest DP to HDMI converter you can find, alternatively a HDMI to DVI converter will also work fine. You might even find one in the box that came with your graphics card.

Using a Rankie dp to dp mini one from Amazon, with a 1080, not single issue.

There was a driver issue when the Pascal cards came out but that was a while ago and has been patched out.

I got my 1080 and Vive after the DP fiasco had supposedly been fixed. Still had erratic issues, as have others. Like I said, it's a crapshoot whether it'll work perfectly or not. ;)

If you want to avoid potential hassles, keep the Vive on HDMI and use DP to the TV instead. DVI, strictly-speaking, does not transmit audio natively, but I think most modern graphics cards can transmit audio using a DVI-to-HDMI adapter - you may want verify that your card supports it.

i have a dvi to hdmi adapter in mt graphics card box but does dvi carry sound? as i use the tv speakers quite a lot
No neither does DP.

Google earth needs stereo sound, and the only audio connected to my pc are my 7.1 voids. I tried to use the earbuds, but since dp doesn't carry sound they aren't detected and google earth still throws a wobbler.

Displayport definitely carries sound, and most modern DVI will too (I forget the exact name for it).

If you already have an adapter kicking around you may as well try it.

Have you selected the Vive audio output in the SteamVR settings? DP should carry audio.

I went the wireless route instead for my headphones and removed the audio connector from my HMD. Far less hassle and dangling cables.
