I was wondering if anyone has a spare Intel socket 1150 cpu (see list below), and would be kind enough to lend it me, so I can update a motherboard. I'll cover the postage  You can check my trust rating, Ive been here for quite a few years.

I've just purchased a motherboard from the members market here, but it turns out the bios on the motherboard isnt current enough to run either of the socket 1150 cpu's I have here (i7-4790k & G3258). And I dont have a compatible (old enough) cpu, to update the bios. The motherboard just doesnt post, so I cant even access bios :( The seller has already sold his cpu that ran in the motherboard, so he cant do anything either.

After some googling others have suffered the same and its just a case of updating the bios, and jobs a good un :) But I need a cpu that is compatible with the early bios revision.
From the MSI's website any of these should do:

As it happens I have an Intel i5 4570 sat aside waiting for my Asus Z97 Pro Gamer RAM to be returned to me from OcUK. If you're willing to take the gamble that the CPU isn't dead, you'd be doing me a favour too by testing the CPU. :D

I'll completely understand if you'd rather pay and use something that's guaranteed to work.

All I ask is that you pay for recorded delivery in each direction - I'm tempted to ask for special delivery, due to the value of the CPU, but that's up to you.

That would great if you're happy with using royal mail's recorded 1st class service? Looks like it's just a couple of £ from their website.

Is there a question mark over the CPU's ability to run?

I have a complete working pc, gigabyte sniper mobo, gtx1070, aio kraken CPU cooler. So can run whatever test you fancy :)

I honestly can't say, but I am certain it's the motherboard. This is also backed up by the fact OcUK tested the motherboard and they couldn't get any life from it either.

If you trust me your address, I can send the CPU later today and you can pay me the postage by bank transfer.

A big thank you to darael for helping out. The cpu he sent me allowed the motherboard to post and get me into bios, which in turn allowed me to update the bios from usb stick.
With the latest bios installed there was no issue installing my 4790k happy days :D

Cheers m8

It's good for me to know that the CPU is actually working - like I said to FlyingFish, I was certain it would be working and that I was unlucky with my motherboard, but the peace of mind was worth helping somebody out.

I shall leave trust once the CPU has been received.

Things like this make you feel good, knowing you can still have faith in people and its not a story's on some random site.

It's not something big but it made a difference.

This is nice :)

The biggest risk was Royal mail x2. :p

Never a truer word spoken! Good show, chaps; and well done OP for not saying 'I am not a shop?' when asked to return the CPU. :D
