Hey guys,

I'm thinking of putting together a new machine. Just wondering what your thoughts are? Any suggestions or problems I might have?

Specs are below:

  • CPU/Motherboard/Memory Bundle: Intel Core 2 Quad LGA775 Q6600 2.40GHz Retail / Gigabyte P35C_DS3R / 2GB OCZ PC2-8500C5 DDR2 Dual Channel Kit – Bundle
  • Graphics Processor : Asus GeForce 8800 GTX HTDP 768MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) – Retail
  • Power Supply: Tagan TG1100-U95 1100W ATX2.01 Turbojet Quad SLi Silent PSU
  • System Drive: Hitachi Deskstar 7K1000 1TB SATA-II 32MB Cache
  • Primary CD ROM/DVD ROM : Pioneer DVR-212D 18x18 DVD±RW Serial ATA Dual Layer ReWriter
  • Monitor: Samsung SM-245B 24" Widescreen LCD Monitor

However I'm not sure on which CPU Fan/Heat Sink I should purchase. Any suggestions?

A great giant killer, I would go for the Tuniq tower which will give some roon for overclocking if you want to.

Your going to have a very nice set yp.

Maybe swap the HDD for 2X500GB WD but other than that sorted :D

Will be a kick *** machine

I normally like to go for 2 hard drives rather than just one as well, just for convenience if one develops a problem.

... and you'll want to add a second monitor as soon as possible too :)

So adding another HD is the way to go then?

I'm also looking at some cases, however, I'm stuck between modding an older case or purchasing a new one. Your thoughts?

Personally i like to have 2 drives. If you have a HDD problem you can fall back on the 2nd HDD. (not all you eggs in one basket)

Also if you decide to add a further HDD = 3 hard drives you could consider running a Raid-5 set up for example

What type of case are you presently using?

Well this is machine is going to be used purely for gaming, so I was either going to use an old case from a Dell machine and then mod that, or purchase a new case.
